The Field Guide for Clear Thinkers

Stymied and stumped by arguments that wrap around you like webs of mystification?

Dr. Ransom's Bestiary is perfect for supplementing any logic curriculum, from junior high to college, or for adults who want to learn more about logic! This book is filled with illustrations, descriptions, exercises, and analysis to help you identify and avoid fallacies you might encounter in everyday life.

Fifty informal fallacies belong to families—fallacies of distraction, ambiguity, form, and "millennial fallacies"—and each one has names, nicknames, and a sketch of its adorable, harmless mode and its true feral face. Each fallacy is followed by discussion questions and exercises; a line-listed answer key and both one and two-semester schedules are included in the back of the book.

Get the flashcards for this amazing introduction to logic! Grades 6+ (at home or in school).

Normal flashcards are printed on 3.4" x 5.5" cardstock. Larger classroom flashcards are printed on 8.5" x 11" cardstock.

Test yourself on fallacy descriptions and all fallacy names (not to mention the ever-captivating beast titles and characteristics). Each flashcard is entertainingly illustrated with each fallacy in harmless mode on one side and attack mode on the other. Get the practice you need to identify the little stinkers wherever they might appear.

What People Are Saying

"I sat down last night with a logic textbook [Adorable Fallacies] prepared by Canon Press—never had I found a subject more artfully and naturally approached.... It's a bit forbidding for me to be before an audience that understands rhetorical tropes, logical fallacies, and so on, because I depend on them to make my points...." -Walter Kirn, author of Up in the Air

"While I review the book as one that should be used by teens, I suspect that many adults will enjoy the book as much or more than teens. Those who might have been introduced to logical fallacies through some other course are unlikely to have encountered all of those covered here, and they certainly will not have learned about the bestiary that accompanies them. Even if Dr. Ransom is reviewing some previously-learned concepts, his unique storytelling talents should prove greatly entertaining." -Cathy Duffy, Homeschool Materials Reviewer

"With its whimsical drawings and far-fetched narrative, I felt as if I were flipping through a copy of J.K. Rowling's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them rather than a catalog of logical fallacies. If you are looking for a good logic curriculum for your child, I would recommend this one, and while you are at it, this is a great refresher for us parents and teachers out there! We've giggled our way through our older group evening read-aloud time with The Bestiary, laughing at the over-the-top examples, but finding more than adequate fodder in society and history to keep a passionate discussion going for well over an hour." -Homeschooling Moms

READER REVIEWS:
"Fun for Kids, Smart for Adults" -Kit

"My 8 year old son was flipping through it the day it came in the mail and he was rollicking on the floor in laughter at the pictures." -Bob

Fascinating atlas. I am studying the southern part of of BC - retracing previous trips. Haven't been bored yet.

            Memories of the Camino
            Format: Paperback
First off, I have to say that my husband and I know Angela, the author. We met her because she is a neighbor of my sister, living in Hawaii. We discovered that she planned to walk the Camino de Santiago de Compostela the same year we were (2016) ! On a visit to Hawaii, we met with Angela and did a little local hike together. She was so enthusiastic and had prepared well. We, too, had been reading up and watching videos, getting suggestions as to what to bring, how to deal with physical issues and weather, what to pack and what not to pack, etc. Still, for anyone doing the Camino - whether the WHOLE 500 miles or doing the required 100 km to get the certificate at the final destination: Santiago de Compostela, Spain - it is a very personal endeavor. Reading Angela Leslee's book gives you the personal story of her "camino," and it is captivating. The changes that take place in her life - the discoveries she makes, the people she meets, the failures she feels, the fears, the habits that get broken (such as food choices!) - all make for an adventure that is life-changing and an interesting read. For anyone considering this pilgrimage, because that's what it is, this book will inspire you. You don't need to be part of a "group." You don't need a lot of plans. You do need to be prepared to be changed. The memory for myself and my husband is that it is the best shared experience we have had together in our 50 years of marriage! Angela's book brought back so many wonderful memories for us. I highly recommend this book.

            Feeling Inspired!
            Format: Paperback
Reading "The Way of Love" has inspired and encouraged me as I plan for my first (solo) Camino. I thank Angela Leslee for being unafraid to bare all the emotions in her book: the joys, victories, setbacks, disappointments, and pain. It's evident that "The Way of Love" was a labor of love as page after page recounts the 500 miles she walked! I told the author in an email that, in September, when I walk my Camino, I'll be sure to be up and out on the trail "...before sunrise when the yellow street lights cast their magical glow." Can't wait to experience that! "The Way of Love" -- easy to read and enjoy.

the good, the bad, the funny, the reality
            Format: Kindle
A great memoir of an “older” woman walking the Camino de Santiago alone. Alone but with many friendships along the way.

            An Honest Tale
            Format: Kindle
When someone you know writes a heart-felt story of a journey of self-discovery, it's startling to realize how little you knew of their self. Walking the Camino across Spain in 40 days of pain and revelations, Angela takes us on an epic journey into her soul. She marvels, delights, laughs, and cries at the breath-taking scenery, the scents of forests and fields of flowers and grasses, the fellow pilgrims she meets and re-encounters across the 40 days. Day by day we travel with her. Her account of everyday life on the journey is vivid. I recommend this book to everyone who has been, or wants to go, on a voyage of self-examination, who wants to question why they are living in the way they are. Maybe life could be different, if one took time to try a different way.
